Ultrasound Diagnostics

BIRTH SERVICES

The female body is an extremely fragile mechanism that requires attention and care. But how to determine what changes are happening in your body, check whether everything is normal or it’s time to pay attention to the state of a particular organ. Specialists in ultrasound diagnostics help women answer these questions.

The most visited type of such research by women, for known reasons, is pelvic ultrasound.

Ultrasound examination is not only one of the safest for the human body (even for pregnant women and infants), but also high-precision.

It allows you to identify a number of” female ” diseases in the gynecological sphere and abnormalities in the work of the female reproductive system.

ultrasound examination

It is not surprising that women are prescribed ultrasound for pelvic examination. It is used to assess the condition of the ovaries, uterus, and bladder, as well as to determine pregnancy at an early stage.

During the diagnostic procedure, the size of the uterus and ovaries are measured, the conclusion is made about the presence of pathological processes in the pelvic organs, and the correspondence of the processes occurring in the genitals to the phase of the menstrual cycle is established.

As a rule, ultrasound is performed on any day of the menstrual cycle, except for the days of menstruation itself. If necessary, US can be carried out during the “monthly”period.

To clarify the diagnosis, you may need to repeat ultrasound, which is performed already on a certain day of the menstrual cycle (by the decision of the attending doctor).

The most common diseases that can be detected during ultrasound:

– uterine fibroids (ultrasound is performed in the first phase of the menstrual cycle and allows you to assess the size of the nodes in the uterus, their structure, as well as the location in the cavity, which is extremely important for determining further treatment tactics).

– endometriosis (ultrasound is performed in the second phase of the menstrual cycle and allows you to determine the presence of endometriosis in the myometrium).

– inflammatory processes in the genitals (US can be performed both in the first and second phase of the menstrual cycle and gives an idea of the presence of an inflammatory process in the uterus, ovaries and appendages).

– cysts and ovarian tumors (ultrasound is performed immediately after menstruation and allows you to determine the presence of cysts (follicular, endometrioid, yellow body cysts, etc.), as well as the presence of tumor-like formations).

– ovarian dysfunction (ultrasound is performed several times in different phases of the menstrual cycle and allows you to determine at what stage there is a failure in the work of the genitals).

– postoperative period (including after abortion (ultrasound is performed according to indications and in the presence of complications).

– to determine pregnancy at the earliest stages (ultrasound allows early diagnosis of pregnancy). The doctor is able to determine the presence of a fetal egg in the uterine cavity during ultrasound already on the 5-7 day (“monthly”).

Ultrasound has a special role in Reproductology. It has become a necessary method for diagnosing patients suffering from infertility. Ultrasound can assess the condition of the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes. Ultrasound is an indispensable method for monitoring the development of follicles, oocyte sampling, embryo transfer, early pregnancy assessment and ectopic pregnancy.

Separately, it should be noted the role of ultrasound with contrast to assess the passage of fallopian tubes and the condition of the uterine cavity.

Echohisterosalpingography (Echo-HSG) is a method for examining the condition of the uterine cavity and the passage of the fallopian tubes based on ultrasound.

Echohisterosalpingography is a diagnostic technique that allows you to determine the following pathology with a 98% probability:

  • Endometrial polyposis;
  • Intrauterine septums, synechiae;
  • Abnormalities in the development of internal genitals;
  • Obstruction of the fallopian tubes, the presence of hydrosalpinges.

uterus

This technique is widely used in the diagnosis of tubal factor infertility due to the fact that ultrasound hysterosalpingography has a higher informative value compared to x-ray HSG (from 80 to 91%), does not carry radiation load (ovarian radiation), and is less painful and minimally invasive procedure, is performed without anesthesia, without hospitalization, that is, it is an outpatient procedure. Special preparation for conducting echohisterosalpingography is not required.

In infertility, it is especially important to assess the passage of the fallopian tubes, since their condition is the most important factor contributing to the onset of self-pregnancy. The movement of the egg and the “meeting” with the sperm occurs in the fallopian tube, then the fertilized egg continues its way to the uterine cavity. Echohysterosalpingography is also a therapeutic method for planning pregnancy, since after the study in 16% of cases, pregnancy occurs.

Echohisterosalpingography is performed in the first phase of the menstrual cycle (after menstruation), usually on the 5-10 day of the menstrual cycle. A special catheter is inserted into the uterine cavity, through which a special contrast agent or saline solution is inserted. The introduced contrast enters the uterus and then into the tubes, which improves the visualization of the latter and their structural features. Further introduction of contrast leads to its penetration into the fallopian tubes, and then into the abdominal cavity, which indicates their passability. If the fallopian tubes are blocked, the injected fluid does not enter the abdominal cavity or accumulates in the tube.

The accuracy and information content of pelvic ultrasound diagnostics depends on two main factors: the doctor’s qualifications and the quality of equipment. Therefore, we would recommend ultrasound “for the female part” in specialized clinics, for which the priority is to take care of the health of the female body and restore its reproductive functions. Our experienced doctors, conducting an ultrasound examination, are able to notice the slightest deviations from the norm and perform additional manipulations for a more accurate diagnosis.
